  • Replacing palm oil with other types of oil is not always feasible due to palm oil’s unique properties as food ingredient. Using other oils would not give the products the same texture and taste that palm oil offers.

  • It is also the highest-yielding vegetable oil crop, which makes it very efficient. One hectare of oil palm plantation is able to produce up to ten times more oil than other leading oilseed crops. This makes palm oil the least expensive vegetable oil in the world.

  • Palm oil plays an important role in reducing poverty level in developing countries.

Malaysia is prominent and has a competitive advantage in the palm oil industry as it has under its belt more than 100 years of experience, proficiency and market leadership in terms of productivity and R&D.

Malaysia palm plantation emphasizes on energy efficiency which leads to high production of palm oil compared to other edible oil plants in terms of its input-output.

Malaysia has always been ahead in terms of laws regulating the oil palm industry. Compliance and enforcement of the rules, particularly the Environmental Quality Act 1974 is constantly taken into account.

In Malaysia, palm planted area totalled up to 8.5 million hectares which in return produces a production totalled to 28.7 million tonnes of palm oil per year compared to other crops with 90% of Malaysia`s palm oil production being exported to more than 140 countries around the world. Beside that it also contributes to 60% of vegetable oil and fats which are traded on world markets.

Though Malaysia is second in the production of palm oil , it still remains the worlds largest exporter of pal oil.
